About the Watershed

A watershed is the area of land that all drains to the same body of water, the watershed for Easter Lake is  6,380 acres or nearly 10 square miles.  The uppermost part of the watershed starts near the Des Moines International Airport and extends east to Easter Lake.

There are three streams that feed Easter Lake; they are Yeader Creek and two unnamed tributaries.

Land use in the watershed is 45% urban, 25% grassland, 14% forest, 13% cropland and 3% other.
